About Us
The Swynnerton Estate is split into three geographical locations; Stafford, Shifnal and Swynnerton.
The history of the Stafford and Shifnal estates dates back to the 11th century when the Stafford family were granted lands by William the Conqueror, parts of which still remain with the family today.
In the mid-16th century the Fitzherberts inherited the Swynnerton Estate through the marriage of Thomas Fitzherbert to the daughter of Humphry Swynnerton. The two estates were brought together through the amalgamation of the Fitzherbert and Stafford families when the barony was passed onto Francis Fitzherbert of Swynnerton in 1935. The title is currently held by (another) Francis Fitzherbert who is the 15th Lord Stafford.
In recent years the Estate has focused on diversifying away from the historical agricultural reliance, and now has interests across geographies and asset classes. We believe that diversification also includes responsibilities, and a commitment to, conservation and sustainability.
